Thank you for asking — deer pressure can be very frustrating, especially in neighborhoods where they browse regularly. Heliopsis is generally considered deer resistant, but not deer proof.
Heliopsis helianthoides ‘Sunstruck’ is generally considered deer resistant, meaning deer usually do not prefer it. However, no garden plant is truly deer proof. If deer are hungry, overpopulated, or used to feeding in a neighborhood, they may sample plants they normally leave alone — especially tender new growth or newly planted perennials.
For best protection, we recommend using deer repellent when the plant is first installed and reapplying after rain. Planting it near other deer-resistant perennials can also help reduce browsing. Once established, Heliopsis is typically a tough, sun-loving perennial and is not usually a first-choice plant for deer.
