Hi,
Good question. Some say perennials can be planted anytime until the ground freezes. We recommend planting at least 30 days before the first hard frost, to allow new feeder roots to get established before the ground freezes.
Fall planting, while the soil is still warm, allows roots time to establish. Thus, plants emerge with well-established roots, providing a stronger start next spring.
Thanks for asking!
