In zone 8, plant coneflowers in the fall for best results.
With proper care perennials can generally be planted anytime the soil temperatures are warm enough. We recommend planting at least 30 days before the first hard frost, to allow new feeder roots to establish before the ground freezes. Spring and most summer blooming perennials, especially bare root, are best planted early in the fall.
Fall planting, while the soil is still warm, allows roots time to grow. Thus, plants emerge with well-established roots, providing a stronger start the following spring.
